Well, well well...it's been a little while, hasn't it? I don't really have any real reason for dropping off the face of the earth, other than work got a little crazy and I just didn't have the time or energy to put my all into this little blog - and I'm not one to do something if I can't give it my all. Anyway...
A few weeks ago I headed to Budapest for a short pre-Christmas getaway, and as sad as it sounds, before I travel I like to read up on 'instagrammable' places in the city/area and add them to by itinerary. However, when doing my research on Budapest, I couldn't find all too much information, so I thought I'd throw my two cents out there in case anyone else may be looking for the same information (after all, I did start this blog with an aim to show you all 'pretty places' I find along my journeys) - Please don't tell me I'm the only one sad enough to do this?!
Fisherman's Bastion
Fisherman's Bastion is one of the prettiest places in Budapest in my opinion, this fairytale-like fort is situated up on Castle Hill so as well as being seriously insta-worthy itself, so are the views you get over Parliament and Chain Bridge. It also makes for the perfect backdrop for that 'basic b*tch' Starbucks shot, which we all know is essential during winter time!
Cafe Gerbaud
If you're looking for that brunch snap, then Cafe Gerbaud is the place to get it. Cafe Gerbaud is one of the largest and most traditional coffee house in Europe, so if you're looking for high ceilings, chandeliers, good coffee and an excellent avo on toast - then this is where you'll find it.
Funicular Railway
If you're planning a trip up to Buda Castle or the Fisherman's Bastion, then definitely stop off mid way up Castle Hill for a peek at the Funicular Railway (or take a trip up the hill in one of the carriages!). It goes up and down every few minutes and it's definitely a sight to see, plus it makes for a bit of a different Instagram post to the usual brunch shot!
Thermal Baths
I couldn't go all the way to Budapest without a trip to at least one of the famous thermal baths, and neither should you - it was so fun to be paddling around in 30 degree water whilst it was 2 deferred outside! It was a bit tricker to get that instagram shot here, being that I was nervous to get my phone too close to the water, but definitely worth it to capture the beautiful blue water and all of that steam!
Cafe New York
Cafe New York is one of the fancier places in Budapest, and is a stark contrast to the ruin bars you see across the city. The ceiling is beautiful, a live string band play as you sit your hot chocolate, and it's the perfect place to escape the cold of a Budapest winter. Also, if you have the KiraKira App, this place is a dream.
Mazel Tov
Mazel Tov was one of my favourite ruin bars that we visited, and definitely the most gram-worthy. Everything is very rustic, and the calm atmosphere makes this bar/restaurant the perfect place to rest your feet after a day of walking around the city. They also do a seriously good falafel wrap.
Parliament Building
The Hungarian Parliament Building is definitely worth seeing (you can't really miss it in Budapest - you can see it from all of the tourist hotspots). The best place to get your shot for Instagram is from across the river though, so you can appreciate the entire building for all of it's beauty. Unfortunately it was seriously misty when I was in Budapest so the image above is one I found on Pinterest, but you get the gist...
Hopefully this guide was helpful for you, and if not - I'm always open to suggestions in the comments below!
