The Skincare Edit: My Current Skincare Routine

15 August 2018

Having battled with acne for years {12 in total} of my life, I've tried my fair share of skincare...and medication...and anything I could to control my skin. Luckily, my skin has since cleared up and {touch wood} isn't too troublesome anymore - I still have my fair share of skincare concerns, but thankfully acne is no longer one of them - and through a lot of train and error, I'm finally in a place where I'm happy with my current skincare routine and ready to share it with the world.

I was hesitant to share this, as everyone is different and so is their skin, but I'm so nosy and love reading posts like this myself! Before I start, I think it's worth mentioning that my skin is for the most part quite oily, dehydrated {but not dry}, sensitive, prone to breakouts and my pores can be seen from space...so a lot to handle! I'm very lucky that I escaped my acne journey with very minimal scarring, and as the scars are quite faint and can be easily covered with a tinted moisturiser I don't tend to focus my skincare routine on those issues. Instead I use my skincare routine to keep my skin smooth {I have a terrible problem with skin texture}, balanced and calm. I do use a few products for targeted treatment as and when I need them which aren't featured, but these are my everyday essentials and my most frequently used.

So In the order of which I use the products...

Fresh Sugar Face Polish

As I mentioned before, I have quite the problem with skin texture, and I know the skincare lovers amongst you will probably slap my wrist for saying this...but sometimes my skin just needs a good scrub. If I dont regularly exfoliate my skin with some form of scrub {I'm not talking about acid exfoliators here}, then my skin becomes extremely congested and it's breakout central for weeks. I tried lots of scrubs, most of which were way too harsh for my sensitive skin, before finally finding the Fresh Sugar Face Polish and since then, I've not felt the need to try anything new. The Fresh Sugar Face Polish is gentle enough on your skin to not make it feel like you're scratching off the surface, but gritty enough to feel like you're really giving it a deep clean. After use, my skin feels smooth without feeling dry or irritated, and it really helps to give your skin that youthful glowy look that I know I' d have naturally if I ate a healthy diet and got 8 hours a night...but we can't all be perfect all of the time.

REN Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk

I feel like finding a great cleanser is like finding 'the one'...extremely difficult unless you're lucky {i am not}. Cleansers are often the make or break of my skincare routine, and have caused multiple breakouts, burning incidents and general skin unhappiness over the years. However, I think I've finally found 'the one' of the cleanser world. I've been using the REN Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk for months now {I'm on my third bottle!} and my skin has never been happier. It soothes my skin without leaving a horrible residue behind and leaved my skin feeling refreshed and most importantly, clean. If you have sensitive skin, I'd highly recommend you give it a go.

La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream

At the moment I'm skipping serums as my favourite {the Clinique Turnaround Serum} is currently out of stock, and going straight in with my hydration steps. Now I'm officially in my mid-twenties, I figured it was time to up my eye cream game, and I'm so glad I did. My eyes are a real problem point for me, as my chubby cheeks mean that my fine lines are starting to show a little early {fellow chubby cheeked girls will know what I mean!}, and it's something I'm fairly self conscious of. For about a year now I've been using the La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream, and whilst it is the most expensive part of my skincare routine, a little bit of this does go a long way, as it's so rich. I'm not sure I can vouch for the success of the cream, because only time will tell with that one, but it does feel very luxurious and pampering to use.

Clinique Moisture Surge 72 Hour Hydrator

The Clinique Moisture Surge range has been a long time favourite of mine, after buying my first pot at 14 when I was flying to Hong Kong! So when I heard they had reformulated, I was sceptical to say the least. Thankfully, the new formula is even better than the old and my skin has been loving it. As my skin is oily but dehydrated, I tend to go for gel formulas as it means that my skin is hydrated without increasing the oil production, and this really is the best of the bunch.

Clinique Turnaround Overnight Revitalising Moisturiser

Before bed, I like to use the Clinique Turnaround Overnight Revitalising Moisturiser, as it's a little bit of a miracle worker. I've been a big fan of the 'Turnaround' range from Clinique for a while now {if you ever get the chance to try the serum - definitely do!} and this cream literally transforms my skin overnight. I can put this on at night with little red bumps all over my skin, hormonal breakouts and angry pores and in the morning it's like I have a whole new face - a clear, glowy one as well. As soon as I can get my hands on the serum, I'll be back to using both for an extra boost. I feel like this little pot is an unsung hero of the beauty world, and definitely doesn't get as much hype as it deserves.

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Balm

I wasn't originally going to include a lip balm in my skincare routine, however I really couldn't leave this one out as it's become such a staple. It's a little more pricey than your average tube of Nivea, but its so worth it. The Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy literally saved my lips when we had that cold snap/beast from the east earlier in the year and continues to do so throughout summer.

Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask

Omorovicza is a new brand to me, but it's quickly become one of my favourites. I normally use their travel sizes when I go away on holiday as they're so convenient, and their Queen of Hungary mist was a life saver in the heatwave we experienced this summer. However, their deep cleansing mask really is the star of the show for me. If my skin is ever breaking out, or generally feels quite congested, I always reach for this little wonder product to save the day. It clears up my skin in no time and leaves it feeling super clean, without stripping my skin. Be warned though, this ends to make it worse before it makes it better by bringing out everything hiding under the surface for a day or two...so maybe not one to use the night before a big event.

If you have any questions about products I'd recommend or things I've enjoyed in the past, I'm always happy to answer in the comments!
