An Instagrammers Guide to Budapest
28 December 2017
Well, well well...it's been a little while, hasn't it? I don't really have any real reason for dropping off the face of the earth, other than work got a little crazy and I just didn't have the time or energy to put my all into this little blog - and I'm not one to do something if I can't give it my all. Anyway...
A few weeks ago I headed to Budapest for a short pre-Christmas getaway, and as sad as it sounds, before I travel I like to read up on 'instagrammable' places in the city/area and add them to by itinerary. However, when doing my research on Budapest, I couldn't find all too much information, so I thought I'd throw my two cents out there in case anyone else may be looking for the same information (after all, I did start this blog with an aim to show you all 'pretty places' I find along my journeys) - Please don't tell me I'm the only one sad enough to do this?!
Fisherman's Bastion
Fisherman's Bastion is one of the prettiest places in Budapest in my opinion, this fairytale-like fort is situated up on Castle Hill so as well as being seriously insta-worthy itself, so are the views you get over Parliament and Chain Bridge. It also makes for the perfect backdrop for that 'basic b*tch' Starbucks shot, which we all know is essential during winter time!
Cafe Gerbaud
If you're looking for that brunch snap, then Cafe Gerbaud is the place to get it. Cafe Gerbaud is one of the largest and most traditional coffee house in Europe, so if you're looking for high ceilings, chandeliers, good coffee and an excellent avo on toast - then this is where you'll find it.
Funicular Railway
If you're planning a trip up to Buda Castle or the Fisherman's Bastion, then definitely stop off mid way up Castle Hill for a peek at the Funicular Railway (or take a trip up the hill in one of the carriages!). It goes up and down every few minutes and it's definitely a sight to see, plus it makes for a bit of a different Instagram post to the usual brunch shot!
Thermal Baths
I couldn't go all the way to Budapest without a trip to at least one of the famous thermal baths, and neither should you - it was so fun to be paddling around in 30 degree water whilst it was 2 deferred outside! It was a bit tricker to get that instagram shot here, being that I was nervous to get my phone too close to the water, but definitely worth it to capture the beautiful blue water and all of that steam!
Cafe New York
Cafe New York is one of the fancier places in Budapest, and is a stark contrast to the ruin bars you see across the city. The ceiling is beautiful, a live string band play as you sit your hot chocolate, and it's the perfect place to escape the cold of a Budapest winter. Also, if you have the KiraKira App, this place is a dream.
Mazel Tov
Mazel Tov was one of my favourite ruin bars that we visited, and definitely the most gram-worthy. Everything is very rustic, and the calm atmosphere makes this bar/restaurant the perfect place to rest your feet after a day of walking around the city. They also do a seriously good falafel wrap.
Parliament Building
The Hungarian Parliament Building is definitely worth seeing (you can't really miss it in Budapest - you can see it from all of the tourist hotspots). The best place to get your shot for Instagram is from across the river though, so you can appreciate the entire building for all of it's beauty. Unfortunately it was seriously misty when I was in Budapest so the image above is one I found on Pinterest, but you get the gist...
Hopefully this guide was helpful for you, and if not - I'm always open to suggestions in the comments below!

A Mini Lush Haul
28 August 2017
If you follow me on Instagram (@rderbyshire93) then you'll have seen that recently, I've decided to go a little more natural with my skincare. Working a busy 9-5 and generally living my life as a 24 year old in London has taken it's toll on my skin - it's been congested, tired, sensitive and reacting to everything I've been trying.
When my skin gets like this, I often find that the best thing to do is take it back a notch, and stop overloading my skin with products. So, when I was tired and grumpy the other night (struggling to keep my eyes open past 7pm), I placed a mini Lush order to cheer myself up...and then completely forgot about it until I had a delivery man knock on my door.
So, what did I order?
The Comforter Bubble Bar
The Comforter is an old favourite of mine, and whenever I place a Lush order I pop another one in my basket. There's just something so comforting about it...clue's in the name! Lush say The Comforter is for those times when you just need to shut yourself off from the outside world (I've been having those feelings a lot lately) and bury yourself in a fruity foam that will put you back in the right frame of mind. This bubble bar will fill your tub with bright pink bubbles and give off the most beautiful scent - Cassis absolute for a lovely berry scent, and bergamot to add an uplifting scent.
Ocean Salt Face & Body Scrub
This is a product thats been on my wish list for years, but I've always been a little worried about it, as I do have quite sensitive skin and have heard that the salt in this scrub can be a little harsh. However, I was quite clearly feeling a little free with my funds when I placed this order so just went for it. I opted for the alcohol free version of the scrub in the hope that it'd be a little gentler on my skin, and the self-preserving option as I can never quite manage to finish the little tubs in time.
This salty scrub contains sea salt to exfoliate, mixed with avocado butter, coconut oil and seaweed to keep your skin silky soft. Whats better, sea salt is known for it's antibacterial properties, so it's likely to help keep spots at bay too. The scrub is quite harsh though, so I would recommend going a little gentler with it if you're worried - scrub too hard and you'll be left with a red face!
Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Mask
I've been a fan of the Lush Fresh Face Masks for years now, they take me back to the days of girly sleepovers with face masks and cucumbers on our eyes! I normally opt for Catastrophie Cosmetic, but this time decided I needed something stronger to tackle my congested skin.
Created to tackle troublesome spots, Cosmetic Warrior contains antibacterial tea tree and fresh garlic to cleanse the skin, fresh green grapes to cool the skin, and free range eggs and honey to tighten and moisturise the skin. I've used this a handfull of times now, and can definitely say that it works...my skin is 10 times clearer since using this, after the initial 'bringing everything to the surface' phase. The reviews are right though, it does smell funky (as you'd imagine with that list of ingredients!) but it's nothing that I couldn't handle and I don't have the strongest stomach in the world.
9 to 5 Cleanser
Lush describe this cleanser as good for 'cleansing on the go'...and although I'm not sure I've ever needed to cleanse on the go, it is perfect for the end of a long day. 9 to 5 contains almond oil and dove orchid essence, along with a whole host of other floral essential oils, to cleanse and sooth the skin, leaving your skin feeling fresh and silky soft to touch.
It's a light cleansing milk, so I find that it doesn't irritate my skin like a lot of foam cleansers...quite the opposite, when I use this my skin feels completely relaxed and refreshed, perfect for jumping straight into bed after a long day. My only regret is that I didn't buy a larger size!
Bunny Moon Jelly Face Mask
If I'm honest, I only bought this as I was keen to try out their new jelly face masks, and compare them to my favourite fresh face masks...and it had bunny in the name 🙊. The jelly concept is an interesting one, and takes a little getting used to - you have to break off a part of the mask and then rub it together to create a paste before applying it to your skin. It's not my favourite formula as it can be quite messy, and also quite difficult to get an even spread of product, but something I'm willing to work with.
Bunny Moon has a blend of honey which acts an an antiseptic, rose oil to help sooth and balance, and camomile and marigold to calm the skin. The mask also contains a dash of vanilla and benzoin resioid to give it a lovely comforting feel.
Unfortunately, whilst this face mask was okay...it was just okay. Nothing to write home about, and definitely not a replacement for the fresh face masks. It didn't perform any miracles on my skin, and I feel like the 'jelly' concept is a bit of a novelty.
What are your favourite Lush products? I'm fully back on the Lush bandwagon (just in time for their winter collections!) and would love to stock up on some more fan favourites!

Aussie Sunday Brunch at Timmy Green 🌿
13 August 2017
Sunday brunch has become somewhat of a tradition for me and my friends, whether we're venturing across London to try the latest spot we've all seen on Instagram, or curing our hangovers in our local Wetherspoons (you can call that brunch, right?!).
Last Sunday we decided to branch out and visit Timmy Green in Victoria. Victoria isn't an area I've really visited, which is odd because it's so close to my house, so it was lovely to check out the local area in the sunshine, admittedly while dodging tourists left, right and centre as we got closer to Buckingham Palace.
Timmy Green is part of the 'Daisy Green Collection', a group of restaurants and bars across London, all inspired by their Australian heritage. Timmy Green was named after their founder Prue Freeman's late brother, a true Australian cowboy, whose legacy inspires so much of the menu - so you can expect to see lots of prime grass fed meats, small plates and of course, their famous Aussie brunch.
Located in Nova, Victoria's newest development, Timmy Green is just steps away from Victoria Station (perfect for that post-brunch food coma!) and a short walk away from Buckingham Palace and it's surrounding parks. Set over two floors, Timmy Green seats around 150, so although they don't accept brunch reservations, you won't be waiting long...in fact, we didn't wait at all, and that was at peak time on a Sunday morning.
The interiors were what drew me in at first, the space is light and airy, and the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The atmosphere was calm, and we were never rushed (even when paying the bill), which made it the perfect place for a long overdue catch up and of course, some good food.
We started off with some coffee and drinks from their extensive drinks menu...I was tempted by a cocktail but it was pre midday so decided a smoothie would be a more acceptable option! I opted for the 'Go Bananas', a concoction of banana (obvs), fat free frozen yoghurt, low fat milk, agave, banana chips and bee pollen whist my friend went for the 'Green Detox Juice' with freshly squeezed cucumber, spinach, celery and apple - uncharacteristically healthy for the both of us...you can tell a summer of socialising is starting to catch up!
The drinks came beautifully presented and were seriously delicious, the perfect start to our Sunday morning. After drinks, we made a start on the extensive brunch menu, and in an effort to deviate away from my usual avo toast (although their avo on charcoal did look seriously good - serious food envy when the man next to me ordered it!), I went for the coconut bread french toast with thick greek yoghurt, fresh and freeze dried raspberries, mango, shaved coconut, 10.8 bee pollen, and pure Vermont maple. Although it was a change for me, and anyone who knows me knows I'm one of those people who always orders the same thing, I was not disappointed. Apart from the dish being the prettiest thing I think I've ever eaten, it was so tasty (and gluten free too!), I savoured every last bite and would have definitely gone back for seconds!
My friend ordered the buttermilk blueberry pancakes with fresh blueberries, mascarpone, pure Vermont maple and and maple bacon - as you can see, we both had a touch of the sweet tooth that morning. They looked amazing, and after trying a bite, I can confirm that they were amazing...the food envy was back with a vengeance.
After we'd suitably stuffed ourselves, we paid and headed out into Victoria to enjoy the sunshine and walk off our food. We took a stroll past Buckingham Palace and played tourist, and then through St James's Park to see the swans and bask in the sunshine - the perfect end to a lovely brunch!
If you're looking for a new brunch spot, that's not hideously overcrowded or demands a ridiculous wait to be seated, then look no further than Timmy Green - I'll definitely be visiting again!

A Day at the Races
25 June 2017
Let me begin this blog post with a little apology, I've been terrible at writing on here recently. Starting a new job and a busy social calendar have really set me back in blogging, and I now feel like I'm so out of the loop with you all that it's put me off jumping back on here...however, I finally have a little free time today, so I thought I'd share some of my photos from my day at the races.
A few weekends ago now, we packed up the car and headed down to sunny Chichester as we'd luckily managed to bag a few tickets to the Richmond Enclosure at Goodwood - score! As someone who loves dressing up, the races are definitely my cup of tea, I loved everything from the outfit planning, to our picnic before the races and to the betting (luckily I managed to keep those habits developed in Las Vegas under wraps!) - it really was a perfect girls day out.
Whilst the weather looks beautiful in the photos above, for most of the day it was pretty windy 😳....we spent a lot of time holding onto our hats (and our skirts) whilst trying to watch the races, so I'd definitely recommend taking plenty of hair grips - my friend luckily had some to lend me and they completely saved me that day!
If you're looking for a fun day out at the races, I'd definitely recommend Goodwood. It had a lovely atmosphere and the countryside surrounding the race course is just beautiful.

24 Hours in Amsterdam
7 June 2017
If you follow me on Instagram, then you'll have seen that this weekend I took a little trip to Amsterdam for a tour of Holland America Line's MS Koningsdam. It seemed a little silly to fly all that way for just the day, so we made the most of the weekend and spent some time exploring the city, and what a beautiful city it was.
As we were only there for the day (apart from the time we spent on the ship - you can read about that here), we hadn't booked anything or made any real plans like I'd normally do for a city break (we had Paris planned out to the second!), instead I wanted to use the time to get a feel for the city with the view that one day I'd return knowing the sorts of things I'd like to do.
Amsterdam often gets a bad rep for being a location for hen do's and stag parties, and don't get me wrong, we saw plenty of these, but there's so much more to the city than drinking and smoking. With it's seventeenth-century buildings museum quarter and refreshing sense of freedom, the city is so much more than it's perceived to be - and somewhere I'd definitely recommend visiting once...or twice!
Our first stop was the Bloemenmarkt, or Floating Flower Market as it's called in English. One of the things I'd have loved to do in Amsterdam was visit the famous tulip fields, however, unfortunately, we just missed out on these by a week, so the flower market was going to have to suffice.
The Amsterdam Flower Market is the only floating flower market in the world, having been around since 1862. All of the flower stalls stand on the houseboats along the canal and are a nod to the old days when the markets were only supplied by boat. Like I said, we'd just missed out on the tulip fields and I think we were also a little late to the market too as there wasn't really much on sale in the way of flowers (it was mainly bulbs) by the time we arrived. So if you're looking for the full experience, I'd head down there first thing in the morning!
After we'd visited the floating flower market, we took a stroll down to the Red Light District. The Red Light District isn't really my cup of tea, nor is it the prettiest place in Amsterdam, but it's something you've just got to see if you're visiting the city, as it's just so famous. We actually managed to walk through most of the red light district without me even realising as the bright sunshine was blocking the 'view' in the windows...it was only when one of the prostitutes ran across the street that I realised where we were! Photos aren't allowed in the Red Light District, as a lot of the women working there are from Eastern European countries and have told family members back home that they're working as nannies, etc and need to protect their safety. There are also police officers everywhere to ensure the women's safety, and it's up to the workers whether they let you in or not...so you have to stand outside and they will only open the door for you if they want to.
After our brief wander through the Red Light District, we headed over to Jordaan, near where Anne Frank's house is located. We hadn't booked tickets to Anne Frank's house as we weren't sure how much time we'd have in the city and it was just as well - the queues were ridiculous! Instead we took a stroll around the canals in Jordaan, a much quieter area of Amsterdam (apart from directly outside Anne Frank's house). The sun was shining so it was lovely to walk around and take in the sights (and smells, ahem 🌿) of Amsterdam.
If you're planning a trip to Amsterdam, I'd highly reccomend a walk through Jordaan. It's perfect for that idylic canal photo (and it's where I took most of my photos!) and it's quaint narrow streets, boutiques and pretty galleries are an instagrammers dream. Jordaan was once a poor area of the city, but has now been renovated and discovered by a new artsy generation, making it one of the most expensive areas in the city!
After we were suitably full of ice cream and sunshine, we headed back to the hotel for a quick change and we were right back out the door, determined not to waste a minute. That evening we headed down to the canals (one of the many!) for a river cruise around Amsterdam. We sat on the canal boat, travelling around the many canals, eating a seriously tasty four course meal and watching the sun set whilst sipping prosecco for a good few hours - it was the perfect end to the day and a chance to reflect on the jam packed day we'd just spent in the Dutch city!
Although I only managed to spend 24 hours exploring what Amsterdam had to offer, I completely fell in love with the city and it's chilled vibe. Amsterdam is definitely somewhere I plan to return to, but next time it will definitely be for a few days so I can fully explore what the city has to offer.

Springtime in Notting Hill
9 April 2017
I probably sound like a broken record saying this, but I feel as though it's been so cold for so long...almost to the point where I'd forgotten what it was like to step outside in less than 10 layers. As much as I love living in London, I feel like it really wears me down during the winter...there's only so much drizzle and gloom that this girl can deal with! Hopefully those days are behind us (or at least for the next few months!) now, as it seems like the capital is completely ready to embrace Spring. In fact, this weekend it was almost hot enough to call it Summer!
Not wanting to waste a beautiful day (we don't get too many of them!), we jumped on the tube and headed a few stops into town. Notting Hill is such a beautiful area, and with it being so close to my neighbourhood, it's a real surprise that I've not explored more of it - something I definitely want to change during the warmer months!
As soon as we stepped off the tube, we headed down some of the quieter streets, avoiding the hustle and bustle of Portobello Market. We came in search of the famous blossom, positioned prettily in front of all of the houses I'll never be able to afford, and we weren't disappointed.
The streets were lined in pretty pink petals, casting a rosy glow over the neighbourhood (as if it could get any prettier?!). We strolled through the streets of Notting Hill for a good few hours, gelato in hand, and I still only feel like I've just scratched the surface of what Notting Hill has to offer! Definitely on my 'to re-visit' list...

The Ultimate Guide to Rome
12 March 2017
Very few cities evoke the sheer wonder of Rome. Visiting Rome is like taking a journey into the past with ancient history, outstanding art and religious ruins at every corner. It's streets are like a museum themselves, and there's a whole other world to discover underneath. With so much to see, do and eat in Rome, the real trouble will be fitting it all in. In today's 'Ultimate Guide' I'm sharing my top things to do, as well as where to stay and the basics you'll need to know before visiting Rome...
Fontana Di Trevi, Rome
6 March 2017
Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain, you will one day return to Rome...throw two coins into the fountain and you will find love, and throw a third coin into the water and you've bagged yourself a husband...so I'm currently waiting on my knight in shining armour to arrive at my doorstep!
A Roman Holiday - Part III
24 February 2017
A Roman Holiday - Part II
22 February 2017
Our second day got off to an early start, which was definitely a shock to the system after our day one lie in, however we had a good reason to be up so early, which definitely softened the blow! Before travelling to Rome, we booked a few trips and tours in advance (like the bus tour I mentioned in day 1), this meant that we didn't have to waste any time queueing up for tickets, to then only have to queue up to visit the attraction - you could spend hours doing this alone so I really would recommend booking in advance.
A Roman Holiday - Part I
21 February 2017
I've been a lover of Italy and all things italian for years now, despite never seeing most of the beautiful country - three days in Piza as an 8 year old girl was enough to make me fall in love. This February, I ended up having a lot of annual leave left to use, so it seemed like the perfect excuse to see more of Italy, as it's something I've been meaning to do for what seems like forever. So last week, we headed out to Rome for four days of italian bliss (expect to see lots of eating and touristing over the coming weeks here on sail away!).
The 2017 Travel List
29 January 2017
Last year I was lucky enough to travel to some amazing destinations, and those experiences have only got me wanting more. Now that the festive period is well and truly a distant memory and the January blues have completely set in, I've started to plan my travel for the year to make the most of my annual leave, and my travel budget. Today I thought I'd share some of the places I'd love to travel to this year, in case you were in need of any inspiration...it's unlikely that I'll make it to all of these places (I'm not made of money!), but it's always nice to dream!
Venice, Italy
Venice has been on my list for years now, I love all things italian and Venice has always seemed so beautiful to me. I got to experience the fake Venice in Las Vegas last year, so now I think it's time I booked a trip to see the real deal!
Santorini, Greece
Again, Santorini has been on my list for years now. Unfortunately it became *the* place to go last year, which has hiked the price up significantly. If the cost of going to Santorini stays as it is, then it'll have to be one for next year, but a girl can always dream!
Isla Holbox, Mexico
Whilst researching a trip to Cancun, I stumbled upon Isla Holbox, which is just a teeny way away from Cancun. This tiny island has a proper 'old Mexico' feel and if I'm honest, looks like heaven on earth. It seems like it would be a great place to travel to after Cancun to get away from all of the typical tourist traps, and see some of the beauty that Mexico has to offer.
Cinque Terre, Italy
The Cinque Terre on the italian riviera has been top of my list for a long time now. Made up of five colourful and authentic fishing villages, the Cinque Terre has one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. The five villages are no longer the isolated hamlets they once were, but there’s still a feeling of remote authenticity, with few roads, perfectly preserved architecture and a network of stunning coastal and mountain trails.

Reykjavik, Iceland
This year I'd also love a wintery holiday around Christmas time, and Iceland looks like it would be the perfect location for my winter wonderland getaway. I'd love to visit the Blue Lagoon and go sledding in proper snow (not like any of this sleet that we get in the UK!), and of course seeing the northern lights in person would be the dream.
Where are you planning to visit this year?

Brunch at Aubaine, Selfridges
23 January 2017
Getting the girls together for Sunday brunch has quickly become one of my favourite weekend pastimes (we're on a mission to brunch our way around London), and this weekends location was just too good to keep to myself.
Aubaine is nestled in the heart of central London, on the second floor of Selfridges, but you could easily forget that you're in the middle of a busy department store and imagine you were somewhere in France. Aubaine describes itself as a true blend of cosmopolitan style and french cuisine, combining the elegance of a Parisian salon with the relaxed ambience of a provençal bistro - perfect for my Parisian withdrawal symptoms (the desire to go back is strong.). Aubaine prides itself on it's sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, and that's exactly what we were treated to. I often find that restaurants who claim to be 'sophisticated' can be a little stuffy, but right from entering the restaurant, we were able to relax and have a laugh together without feeling self conscious or out of place.
The décor was what really sold me on Aubaine. The urban yet rustic interiors transported me back to the Parisian cafés that I loved so much last year, and the floral ceiling was to die for. Seriously, this place is the stuff of Instagram dreams.
If the décor wasn't enough for you, then the food certainly will be. Unfortunately, Aubaine don't have a brunch menu on a Sunday, as the restaurant doesn't open until 11.30am, however their standard menu is just as good. As it was almost lunch time by the time we made it to the restaurant, I opted for the salade de chèvre chaud - warm goats cheese on cereal toast, frisée salad, apple grapes & walnuts - and I can honestly say, it was one of the best salads I've ever tasted. Aubaine's philosophy is 'simplicité chest beauté', and that's exactly how I'd describe our experience.
If you're looking for somewhere relaxed (and Pinterest-worthy), with amazing food, then I'd definitely recommend Aubaine. They have restaurants across London, but if you're in it for the floral décor then Selfridges is the one for you!
